Rose Brothers Dept. Store

       August 13th 2009 almost brought an end to a  Beattyville era.   As the fire consumed almost an entire city block, it was eating away at Rose Brothers which has been a part of the local community since 1931.  Founded by Green Rose, the store has grown and changed with the times bringing a broad range of goods to the community for over 70 years.   From overalls to fine china; from kids shoes to guitar strings; Rose Brothers has always been on top of the latest trends and gadgets to make life more pleasant.  Lucille Lumpkins, the local manager, who has worked for the store since 1976, said ” we have a little bit of everything for everybody”.        Doug, Mike, and Phyllis Rose have continued the family tradition and kept Rose Brothers alive in Beattyville.  … Read entire article »

Extreme Hair Design

Extreme Hair Design isn’t really a new business in Beattyville.  Owners, Cindy and Aaron Thorpe, actually opened a shop in Lee County in 2003 near the High School.  But with the purchase of the old Stufflebean building at the West end of Beattyville on Railroad Road , they opened in town on February 14 2009, quite the Valentine’s day celebration.       Theirs is quite the romantic tale.  Together since they were 16, Cindy graduated from LCHS in 1992 and began working in Richmond as a cosmetologist.  The hour drive from Canyon Falls to Richmond was taxing and took critical time from her family.  Since Lee County is home, they decided to start their own business.    Between the two of them, and their daughter Desiree, they have started a one stop mall … Read entire article »
