The Beattyville Kiwanis Club is pleased to announce that Dickson Carnival Company has signed a contract to bring 16 amusement rides, games and food booths to Beattyville the week of June 15-19, 2010. They will setup at the Beattyville Kiwanis Happy Top Fairgrounds.
At a recent Kiwanis Club Board of Directors meeting, those in attendance voted unanimously to make a major change to the homecoming fair this year. Board members discussed ways to revive the homecoming fair for this year and beyond. By meetings end the board decided to change the Carnival Company, the date, add new activites to the chedule, reduce the per night armband price and try making it a true homecoming like in years past.
Taking the boards recommendations, the Carnival Committee contacted 20 carnivals companies throughout the eastern united states. In comparing companies, one company seemed to stand above the others and understood the new direction the Kiwanis club was undertaking for the 2010 season. Wayne White, owner of the Dickson Carnival Company, worked in midway’s that were in Beattyville in the 1980’s. He remember the carnival setting up behind the Beattyville grade school and how special that was to everyone attendeding. He will bring 16 rides to town including a ferris wheel,12 games and two food booths. The food booths will include cotton candy, candy apples, corn dogs, funnel cakes and polish sausage. This year the armband price has been reduced to $10.00 each night except Thursday night, Kiwanis Appreciation Night, with armbands costing only $7.oo. Single ride tickets will also be available each night of the carnival. There will be free parking and admission to the fairgrounds.
A new attraction has been scheduled for the carnival this year. The Beattyville Arts Guild will be having an interactive art exhibit/show. Local artists are invited to set up booths at the picnic pavilion. The public is welcomed to participate in the creative process. Enjoy a class in watercolor or test your pipes in singing class.
