Recently a young man, quite handsome, came into my office to discuss Beattyville and its infamous distinction as one of the five poorest cities in the United States. He was from Connecticut, educated at a private university in Pennsylvania and quite intelligent. He wanted to know what I thought was the biggest obstacle facing Beattyville and I said . . . . . but wait you might want to read his essay to find out.
